Kevin Grant was born in 1954 in Mutare, a town on the eastern border of Zimbabwe. Eighteen years, three towns and five schools later he completed his schooling with a mediocre “A” level. He read science at the local university graduating in 1975 and was immediately conscripted into the army to do his National Service as a medic. Once demobilised, he married the love of his life, Sue Rees, enrolled at the University of Cape Town and completed an honours degree in 1979. He then conducted research leading to a doctorate in biochemistry and (together with Sue) raised a family of three children, Kirsty, Duncan and Amy. In 1992 the family emigrated to Australia and, after a period of a few months of nomadic existence, settled in the capital, Canberra. He now earns his living as scientific adviser to the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

He has always written. From stories and poems written for his own amusement as a child, through contributing to and editing the high school newspaper and the use of stories as a teaching tool, to inspirational articles written for the church newsheet. In 2001 he began to take his writing seriously, entering several poetry and short story competitions. His achievements are detailed in Prizes and Publications.

His interests have been many and varied over the years: reading (from fantasy to theology), hiking, canyoning, kayaking, scuba diving, road cycling and mountain biking. But in all these his two primary passions in life have been his God and his family, both of whom he has served and enjoyed. Naturally, the rich cultural diversity in which he has lived, his interests and deeply-held passions richly colour the style and shape of his writing.
